General information
The airport is one of the busiest in Europe, mainly used by British Airways, easyJet and TUI Airways. London Gatwick Airport has two runways, but they are too close together for simultaneous operations. It is the second busiest single-runway airport in the world, after Mumbai Airport in India. The airport has good train connections to London and Brighton. Thameslink provides a direct train service between London Gatwick Airport and London Luton Airport (Luton Airport Parkway Station). The fastest train connection to the city centre is carried out by Gatwick Express. There are many good hotels at the airport and nearby.
Where is London Gatwick Airport situated?
London Gatwick Airport lies south of the capital London and north of the cities Crawley and Brighton. Its connection to the M23 motorway is excellent, as the airport can be reached within minutes via Junction 9.
How many terminals does London Gatwick Airport have?
London Gatwick Airport consists of two terminals, both terminals have more than 30 boarding gates. North Terminal and South Terminal are connected by an APM automated people mover (Inter-terminal shuttle service). The Shuttle Transit is available 24 hours a day, every few minutes you have a travel option, it takes only 2 to 3 minutes. London Gatwick Airport railway station is located at South Terminal. If you want to know from which terminal your flight departs, it is advisable to check the Terminal Finder.
South Terminal has two floors. On the ground floor you will find the check-in desks and UK & Ireland Arrivals on the left and International Arrivals on the right. You will arrive at the boarding gates via the security check on the first floor. If your flight departs from boarding gates 31-38 (circular satellite pier) keep in mind you still have to walk for 10 minutes after clearing security.
North Terminal has three floors. The Arrivals hall and car rental counters are located on Level 0, Check-in & Bag Drop on Level 1 and Check-in & Bag Drop and security check on Level 2. Buses and taxis are available directly in front of the Arrivals hall on Level 0. If your flight departs from boarding gates 101-113 (Pier 6) keep in mind you still have to walk for 10 minutes after clearing security.
