Luxor Airport is an international airport near Luxor, one of the most visited cities in Africa. Luxor is a popular tourist destination due to its many archaeological sites, such as Luxor Temple and Temple of Amon (Karknak) on the east bank of the Nile and the Temple of Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon on the west bank of the river. The Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens are located on the west bank of the Nile. Thebes is the ancient Egyptian name for Luxor. Today the city has 1.3 million inhabitants and tourism is the main source of income. Flying is the easiest way to travel between Cairo and Luxor, direct flights are offered by EgyptAir, Air Cairo and Nile Air.

The airport is located east of the city and the Nile River. Luxor Airport can be reached by car via the Cairo-Aswan Eastern Desert Road.
