General information

Mumbai Airport is the second busiest airport in India behind Delhi Indira Gandhi Airport. The airport is named after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj (1630 – 1680), it has two terminals (T1 and T2) and two runways. Until 1996, the city was known as Bombay, hence the IATA airport code BOM. The centre of the city is accessible by public transport and taxi. In October 2024, Metro Line 3 (Aqua Line, Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ) started operations. The new metro line connects Mumbai’s business districts, the airport (T1 and T2) and the northern suburbs of Mumbai.

Where is Mumbai Airport situated?

Mumbai Airport is located in the middle of Mumbai (Vile Parle), north of the city centre. By car, you can reach the airport via the Western Express Highway.

How many terminals does Mumbai Airport have?

The airport has two terminals, known as Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Terminal 1 is located in the west (Santacruz) and used for domestic flights. The terminal consists of an Arrivals hall and Departures hall (Departures Gate 1 and Departures Gate 2) and is currently being renovated. The old part of Terminal 1 is no longer operational. Terminal 2 is located in the north (Sahar) and used for both domestic and international flights. Terminal 2 is a very modern terminal opened in 2014 consisting of P6 Arrival, P4 Public Transport / Taxi and P10 Departure. The Arrivals hall has three exits, namely A, B and C. The Departures hall of Terminal 2 has eight entrances (gates 1 to 8). The terminals at Mumbai Airport are 4 kilometres / 2.5 miles apart, you can travel between the terminals by taxi and a free shuttle bus service. The shuttle buses run every 20 to 25 minutes, a bus ride between T1 and T2 takes 20 minutes.
