General information

Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta Airport is one of the busiest airports in Africa, home to national flag carrier Kenya Airways. The capital of Kenya has two airports, namely Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta Airport and Wilson Airport in the south of the city close to Nairobi National Park. Wilson Airport is used for regional flights. Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta Airport has two terminals and one runway. Two excellent hotels at the airport are Crowne Plaza Nairobi Airport and Four Points by Sheraton Nairobi Airport.

Mombasa in eastern Kenya, the oldest city in the country, can be reached from Nairobi by air (1 hour and 5 minutes) and train (5 to 6 hours). Flights between Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta Airport and Mombasa Moi International Airport are provided by Kenya Airways, Skyward Airlines and Jambojet. A beautiful holiday destination just south of Mombasa is Diana Beach.

The airport is located southeast of the capital of Kenya and can be accessed from Nairobi via Mombasa Road or Nairobi Expressway. A short distance from the airport you will find Nairobi National Park.

How many terminals does Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta Airport have?

The airport has two terminals, known as Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Terminal 1 consists of five parts: 1A (International Arrivals & Departures, Kenya Airways and SkyTeam Partners), 1B, 1C (International Departures), 1D (Domestic Departures & Arrivals) and 1E (International Arrivals). JKIA Terminal 2 is quite modern and is mainly used by African Express Airways. Another Kenyan low-cost carrier, Jambojet, makes use of T1A for international flights and T1D for domestic flights. During rush hour, a shuttle bus (Airport Shuttle) runs between terminals T1 and T2 every 10 minutes. Outside rush hour, the shuttle service is available every 30 minutes. Walking is possible as well, it will take you 15 minutes.

Directly outside the Arrivals hall of Terminal 1A you will find the offices of telephone providers Safaricom, Airtel and Telkom. Here you can buy a Kenyan SIM card which will come in handy during your stay in Nairobi and Kenya. Besides, there is a bank (Absa) where you can withdraw money.
