General information
Navi Mumbai Airport is one of two airports in Mumbai, officially opened in October 2025 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The first domestic flights are scheduled for December 2025 or January 2026, with international flights to follow at a later date. Navi Mumbai is planned city near Mumbai, and part of the Mumbai metropolitan area. The airport currently has one terminal and a single runway. In the future, it will expand to up to four terminals and two parallel runways. It covers an area of approximately 1,160 hectares. While road access by car and taxi is good, public transport links are still limited.

The airport is situated south of downtown Navi Mumbai and east of downtown Mumbai. Navi Mumbai Airport is accessible by car via National Highway (NH) 348A and the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (opened in January 2024). Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority is located at a short distance from Navi Mumbai Airport, it is the second-largest container port in India after Mundra Port.
How many terminals does Navi Mumbai Airport have?
The airport has one modern terminal, known as Terminal 1, for both domestic and international flights. The terminal has a lotus-inspired design with two piers (West Pier and East Pier) and is located north of the runway. The terminal at Navi Mumbai Airport has four entrances, 66 check-in desks and 22 self-service bag drop counters. After the security check, you arrive at the boarding gates. Navi Mumbai Airport has 29 aerobridge gates and 10 so-called bus gates.
The terminal has a capacity of 20 million passengers per year, while Mumbai Airport has a total capacity (T1 and T2) of 55 million passengers per year. Navi Mumbai Airport will eventually feature four terminals with a total capacity of 90 million passengers per year. Once all terminals are operational, an APM automated people mover will connect all of them. Terminal 2 at Navi Mumbai Airport is expected to open in 2029, subsequently Terminal 1 at Mumbai Airport will be closed.
