General information

Port Elizabeth Airport is the fourth busiest airport in South Africa in terms of passenger numbers. The airport serves the city of Port Elizabeth, which is the fifth largest city in the country. It is known as the “ten minute airport”, because it is so close to the city centre. Many arriving passengers rent a car at the airport for a journey to Cape Town via the beautiful south coast (Garden Route / Eden and Overberg).

NOTE: In February 2021 the official name of the airport was changed to Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport, at the same time the name of Port Elizabeth was changed to Gqeberha. Its name comes from the Xhosa language, the second most spoken language in South Africa after Zulu.
