Sofia Airport is the largest and busiest airport in Bulgaria, it is mainly used by Bulgaria’s flag carrier Bulgaria Air and low-cost carriers Wizz Air and Ryanair.
Where is Sofia Airport situated?
The airport is located east of the capital. Via the ‘Tsarigradsko shose Blvd’ and ‘Bruksel Blvd’ you can get from the city to Sofia Airport by car.
How many terminals does Sofia Airport have?
Sofia Airport has two terminals, the old and small Terminal 1 and the new and larger Terminal 2. Most flights depart from T2, including flights of national airline Bulgaria Air. Sofia Airport metro station is next to Terminal 2. A free shuttle bus runs between terminals T1 and T2 every 30 minutes (Inter-Terminal Transfer)
On the ground floor of Terminal 2 you will find the check-in desks and the public area of the Departures hall and Arrivals hall. Check-in desks 1 to 24 and gates A, B, C are used for international flights. After security, you can reach the international Departures hall on the upper floor via escalators. Check-in desks 25 to 34 and gate D1 are reserved for domestic air traffic. The Arrivals hall is divided into International Arrivals and Domestic Arrivals, close to the airport’s taxi stand and and bus stops.
The Departures hall and Arrivals hall of Terminal 1 are not interconnected for passengers. The Departures hall of Terminal 1 at Sofia Airport is small with 17 check-in desks and 7 gates, there is little waiting room, but there is a nice café-restaurant on the first floor.
