S-Bahn to Stuttgart
The connection between the airport and Stuttgart is excellent, you can use the S-Bahn. The underground station of Stuttgart Airport is located below the airport building and is named Flughafen/Messe. Travel time to the main railway station Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof is 27 minutes. Both S-Bahn S2 (direction Schorndorf) and S-Bahn S3 (direction Backnang) run from the airport to the city, every 10 to 20 minutes. During the weekend, you have a travel option every 15 minutes with S2 and S3. Do you want to go to the city centre, it is better to get off at Rotebühlplatz Stadtmitte (25 minutes), one stop before the central station.
S-Bahn tickets
You need a ticket for 2 zones which costs € 4.00 for adults and € 1.80 for children from 6 up to 14 years. The price of a day ticket for 2 zones is € 8.00, a “GruppenTagesTicket” that you can use with a maximum of five people costs only € 15.50. At the S-Bahn stations, it is easy to buy one or more tickets from the ticket vending machines. However, buying tickets in advance (Handy Ticket) is the most advantageous. It is also possible to take U-Bahn U6, but it takes more time to get to the city (32 minutes to Stuttgart Hbf). Besides, the metro station of the airport is a bit further from the terminals.
