Very unfriendly staff in some shops and certainly in the restaurants. The food is substandard and quite expensive for the crap you get. Worst airport I've ever been to and absolutely no respect for tourists.
The staff were very strict on bag drop timings and bag size (EasyJet). They made a family with a disabled traveler put bags into the hold that had been ok as hand baggage on the way out of the UK.
My main complaint is that food halls all start to close down about 8pm, our flight was 9:50pm.
Never been in an international airport that closed down the food halls so early. Utter crap!!
Arrived well before our flight was due to depart (3 hours, as usually advised) and, along with most of the passengers due to travel on it (Ryanair to London Stansted) still nearly missed it.
There were not enough check in desks open (only 3 as far as we could see), causing utter mayhem in the bag drop area.
Airport security was no better, and worse if anything. Thankfully, the only kind staff member in the whole airport agreed to fast track us.
In the departure area, they had wiped our flight off the information boards and then put out last calls without even telling us which gate to go to. Told us all (many passengers) the gate was actually now closed. Somehow, we got there but that was no thanks to most staff at this chaotic airport. The gate hadn't closed at all, though was on last call.
Very stressful experience. I have never, ever before come close to missing a flight, and we will not forget this. Avoid if at all possible.
I was there to help my mother during her travel home.
She had surgery few weeks earlier and was somehow unstable in her feet, so she was holding on my arm all time, and we were walking slowly toward the security checks.
We didn't ask for any kind of assistance, but the security open up a line just for us, and one of the security even held my mother and accompanied her trough the security gate, while I was unable since getting through security myself.
The place was crazy busy, and finding these people so aware and helpful surprise me.
Also going through the check in and accessing the gate was quite easy.
This airport is the epicenter of racism and discrimination. The staff in the airport and the airline counters and security are rude, obnoxious, and profile people. AVOID this airport if possible. The only civilized staff are the workers in the food service area. This airport does NOTHING to promote tourism and is the COMPLETE opposite of the people in Venice. The Venetian people are warm, generous, inviting, hospitable, and able to communicate. I am a seasoned traveler for over 17 years. Venice AIRPORT is the worse for customer service and appreciation.
