Xi’an is the capital and largest city of Shaanxi Province, located in northwestern China. Tourists visit Xi’an mainly because of the Terracotta Army near the mausoleum of Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi, one of the world’s most exciting archaeological discoveries. In Xi’an itself there are also many sights you can visit such as Xi’an City Wall (Fortifications of Xi’an), Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, Bell Tower and Drum Tower and the Muslim Quarter. Xi’an Xianyang Airport is a busy airport consisting of four terminals (T1, T2, T3, T5) and four runways. Terminal 5 is the airport’s newest terminal, it opened its doors in February 2025.

The airport is located in Xianyang (1 million inhabitants), northwest of Xi’an (9.5 million inhabitants), hence the name of the airport. The airport can be accessed by car through the S1 Airport Expressway and the G70 Fuyin Expressway.
How many terminals does Xi’an Xianyang Airport have?
Xi’an Xianyang Airport has four terminals, known as T1, T2, T3 and T5. Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 are located in the southwestern part of the airport, Terminal 5 is located in the northeastern part of the airport. Terminal 5 was officially opened in February 2025 and covers an area of 705,500 m2, more than terminals T1, T2 and T3 combined. The capacity of Terminal 5 is 50 million passengers per year. Terminal 3 has a capacity of 22 million passengers per year, T1 and T2 together have a capacity of 11 million passengers. The walking distance between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 is 5 to 10 minutes, the walking distance between Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 is 5 to 10 minutes. Taxis, buses and metro line 14 operate between T1/T2/T3 and T5.
