Public transport

Train and S-Bahn to Zurich and Winterthur

Zurich Airport has its own railway station from where trains (EuroCity, InterCity, InterRegio) and the S-Bahn (S2, S16, S24) depart to Zurich Hauptbahnhof, among others destinations. Every few minutes you will have a travel option, only in the early morning and late at night there are slightly fewer options. A journey from the airport to the main railway station of Zurich takes approximately 11 minutes. From Zürich HB you can reach the city centre and many hotels on foot via the Bahnhofstrasse.

Tickets for public transportation are available online and from the ticket counters and ticket machines at Zurich Airport, the price for a single ticket is 7.00 CHF for adults and 3.50 CHF for children from 6 to 16 years (“Einzelbillett 3 Zonen: 110, 121 – Fare zones 110 (Zurich City) and 120 (Winterthur City) count double in price calculations”). Tickets are valid on all means of public transport for the length of 60 minutes, you can change lines within the selected fare zone(s).

You can also buy a day ticket for 3 zones upon arrival at the airport, the price is 14.00 CHF for adults and 7.00 CHF for children from 6 up to 15 years. A day ticket is valid for 24 hours. A “Tageskarte” that you can only use inside the city’s borders (1-2 Zonen) costs 9.20 CHF for adults and 6.40 CHF for children. You can download the ZVV-Ticket-App and purchase tickets quickly. Children up to 5 years travel free in Zurich when accompanied by an adult.

Locations north of Zurich are better accessible by the Glattalbahn tram service, tram no. 10 runs to Zurich Bahnhofplatz via Glattpark, Oerlikon and Irchel, tram no. 12 runs to Bahnhof Stettbach via Glattbrugg and Wallisellen. The price for the tram is 7.00 CHF for adults and 3.50 CHF for children. Travel time by train or S-Bahn S24 to Winterthur, Switzerland’s sixth largest city, is 15 minutes. A single ticket valid for 4 zones (120 minutes) costs 9.20 CHF for adults and 4.60 CHF for children. You can buy a Zürich Card at the airport and online for 24 hours or 72 hours. The card offers discounts, free entry to museums and free public transport in the city. That means, transport to and from Zurich Airport is included in the price!
