Although there is one flight each week to Alicante, that is at a convenient time, i have decided to give Exeter a miss from now on. The check in staff are appalling and ill informed. The security staff are equally poorly trained and rude. The whole experience from check in to departures is dreadful. I travel to Spain every 2-3 weeks and, in the past, found Exeter to be convenient and a pleasant experience...not now! I took the trouble to investigate the qualifications of the General Manager they are very low level (Linked In) and this is probably reflected in the training of the staff. I never have any problems at any other airport but Exeter is always awful these days. I have a lounge access card and i have always used the Lounge in Exeter. Most of the staff are absolutely delightful but one chap is one of the rudest i have yet to encounter. One lady, who is normally charming was obviously stressed one day and pointed out that they were not accepting walk ins as they had so many holiday extras bookings. She then realised that the majority of people would be leaving in 10 minutes and, of course, this was the case. I took photos of a completely empty lounge within 5 minutes of my arrival! Other staff members in duty free and other areas begged me to write and complain about check in and security. I did so but, guess what? Nothing has changed. It would be so good to see all these staff members sent to Alicante to be trained; compared to Exeter they are amazing in every area.
Visited the airport to pick up a family member January 2024 - firstly blazen signs everywhere. I'm picking up went through the drop off barrier stopped for 4 mins then exit via the barrier paid £5 for 4 mins. You know - you want to do the right thing and not park on the double yellow lines but I ask what a rip off - no wonder this airport has and will be in trouble. Dreadful avoid at all costs!
having arrived back into Exeter from a very hostile PALMA which l can describe as nothing more than a cattle market/concentration camp, l was met by a young man called CORY (sorry if l have spelt it wrong) who took full control of my situation. My husband and l were like most passengers passing through special assistance in PALMA already traumatised as the staff in the security area had no idea how to treat someone with a disability (seen or not) and if you were unable to stand unaided and walk through the security scanner, they merely turned you around in your wheelchair and moved you to the back of the queue. They didn't have a thought for who you might be travelling with and just separated people willy....nilly!!!!!! The whole experience was horrific and instead of being on the plane first i had to be carried on in a chair most degrading and upsetting experience for a disabled or non disabled passenger. What a difference at Exeter once CORY arrived on the scene. He and 2 of his colleagues sat me in my own wheelchair and took me right through to the car park where my carriage awaited. He was so helpful, pushed me while my husband took the trolley and told us ever step of the way, what was happening! l couldn't thank him enough but told him l would make sure that l let his employers know that he is a credit to them. When asked if he enjoyed his job, the resounding answer was 'YES' and he even went on to say that if he can go home each day knowing that he has helped someone then he is happy. So, lets do one for CORY he certainly made my day and l wish him well
My husband and I were travelling to Palma on the 23rd of May. We have always used Exeter Airport as the staff have always been very held but not this time. My husband is a disabled former Royal Marine who when entered passport control was met my a most unfriendly and unprofessional lady. She was very rude and treated my husband badly. And we were not the only ones, she had one lady in tears. It has put us off using Exeter again
I will never recommend or travel via Exeter Airport or Flybe. My experience as a disabled traveller at the hands or a security guard was discriminatory, abusive and derogatory. I did not go to Exeter aiport to be publically verbally and physically abused by one of the security officiers. I am AVSec qualified and worked in air asset protect in the RAF for years, experiencing air security in airports all over the world, both regional and international, in 40 years of travel this was the worst. The security officer should be sacked. This was not through ignorance nor lack of training, but a deliberate and calculated actions by this member of staff. I not other have had similar experiences, including one lady who appeared on Devon Live.
